For personal vehicles

Prepare the vehicle, repair-shop handoff, and personal items before a local provider arrives.

Residential towing often starts in a driveway, apartment complex, shopping area, or safe roadside location. A smooth handoff means knowing the vehicle condition and the destination details before the provider is on the way.

Prepare access. If the vehicle is in a garage, driveway, or parking area, note gate codes, low-clearance issues, nearby obstructions, or whether another vehicle blocks access.

Protect the handoff. Remove personal valuables if safe to do so. Photograph the visible condition, note the fuel level, and confirm the address and after-hours key policy with the repair facility.

Use a simple record. Keep the provider name, driver identifier, pickup location, destination, and quoted scope in your notes until the vehicle is back in your control.

Apartment complexes, HOA properties and private lots often have their own towing arrangements, and those rules are separate from the service you are requesting. If your vehicle sits in a complex lot, check whether the property has a contracted operator and whether an outside truck is permitted on site. It is a short question that occasionally prevents a wasted trip.

Access is the detail most often left out. A gate code, a narrow alley, a carport with low clearance, a vehicle boxed in by two others, or a long unpaved driveway all change what equipment can reach the vehicle. Mention them when you make the request rather than when the truck arrives - an operator can usually plan around a constraint they know about and frequently cannot work around one they meet on site.
